Milan Fashion Week - Plastinina Show

Unlike most girls her age, Kira Plastininia dismisses bratiness for the boardroom. As the chief designer of her namesake clothing line, she approves sketches, chooses fabrics, and tweaks designs until the wee hours of the morning. Kira first embarked on the road to success when her billionaire father, Sergei Plastinin, noticed her sketching one day at the kitchen table. Impressed by her designs, Sergei proposed the idea of producing and selling them to the public. Fast-forward two years, she is the talk of the town in her homeland. The teen tycoon has opened over 30 retail stores in Russia, with an online e-commerce that continues to thrive from one collection to the next!.....

Luxe in Leno's Garage: Everybody Needs an EcoJet

Like all great feats of the imagination, the EcoJet began life on a napkin. As an auto enthusiast, Jay Leno had always wanted to design his own turbine-engined car, and when he conceived the notion for a high-performance, yet environmentally friendly, vehicle the pen and napkin came out. Eight months later the results were premiered at the 2006 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas.

The primary goal was to design and build a car that ran on environmentally friendly, renewable bio-diesel fuel and that didn't drive like a Prius. The heart of the EcoJet is a 650-horsepower Honeywell LT-101 turbine engine, which sits inside a modified Corvette Z06 hydroformed aluminum frame with aluminum and magnesium structural and chassis components. The vehicle's shell is an advanced construction of carbon fiber over Kevlar, and the body is painted with environmentally friendly paint from Glasurit's 9 Line Waterborne Technology lines, which is designed to dramatically reduce emissions during application.

But nobody said that designing and building an environmentally friendly supercar was quick and easy. It's been three long years since the inception of the EcoJet project, and there have been many bumps along a painstaking road. It didn't take long for its monster turbine engine to burn out clutch discs, brakes, and torque converter. Jay and the Big Dog crew always knew that the EcoJet would be a long term labor of love and a work in progress. Now that the EcoJet is finally on the road and clocking speeds in excess of 150 mph, the next step will be trying to come up with a system to muffle intake noise for a whisper quiet ride.

With aeronautical and jet-age influences, the EcoJet's design conveys power, capability, and even a hint of danger, but ultimately, the project is intended to inspire would-be automotive designers by showing that with a little creativity (and more money than brains), an environmentally friendly performance car is not only possible but also breathtaking.

Emilio Pucci - Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010

The first clothes designed by Pucci were for the Reed College skiing team. But his designs came to wider attention in 1947, when he was on leave in Zermatt, Switzerland. Skiwear that he had designed for a female friend was photographed by Toni Frissell, a photographer working for Harper's Bazaar. Frissell's editor asked Pucci to design skiwear for a story on European Winter Fashion, which ran in the winter 1948 issue of the Bazaar. Although there had been some experiments with stretch fabrics in Europe before the war, Pucci's sleek designs caused a sensation, and he received several offers from American manufacturers to produce them. Instead he left the Air Force and set up a haute couture house in the fashionable resort of Canzone del Mare on the Isle of Capri.
Emilio Pucci clothes and accessories are sold through Emilio Pucci and Rossignol worldwide and in high-end department stores, mostly feature the designer's original brightly colored, often swirly, prints or new designs in his original distinct style. The fashion house produces ready-to-wear clothes and accessories for women, in addition to a small range of men's accessories. In the past, the house has produced a more comprehensive range of men's wear, including a line in partnership with Ermenegildo Zegna , which included men's jackets lined with Pucci printed fabric, especially for American department store Saks Fifth Avenue.

Ciao Bella: Elena Miro for Milan Fashion Week

Never to run with the pack, Elena Miro will be the only PLUS SIZE fashion house to show at this year's Spring/Summer 2010 Milan Fashion Week. One of Europe's best kept secrets. The Miro Ready to Wear collection is size 14 and Up, that offers an array of career and resort wear in bright yellows, novelty nudes, along with, black and gray mixed prints for the Simplistic European Siren.

FYI, Elena Miro has been around since the 1970s as a classic plus size brand, and as the seasons have changed and evolved, so has she. According to Elena Miro Fashion, "The Elena MirĂ² woman is trendy, dynamic and well-informed, and has no intention of missing out on what fashion is offering in standard sizes. Product, distribution, research and communication have led to the creation of a real focal point for the "Mediterranean" style of woman."
