New School News: The University.... clothing from J. Henry Plummer
"Does any one make realness anymore?"....
With the influences of rock and hip hop culture ruling the ranks of fashion formations worldwide, its hard to find a sharp dressed man under the age of 25 who willingly wears a suit for leisure. Yet D.C. clothing designer J. Henry Plummer is proving you can teach an old dog, as well as, the pups several new tricks with his clothing company, The University. Founded on the premise that young CEO's can build their corporations on God's foundation, University Clothing looks to empower young people with a passion to pursue the finer things in life. Powered with confidence and faithful leadership, University Clothing is the brand to watch in 2010.
On to the next-ness, the Mid Week Makeover got a few moments to look into the mind of University Clothing's founder J. Henry Plummer. Ever so distinguished, Mr. Plummer's eye for style is years ahead of his peers. When it comes to genius and forward thinking, the insightful ones never run with the pack, so let's get to know him sooner than later....shall we?
EVO Ray: What is the message you’d like your supporters to associate most with
your brand?
J. Henry: The focus of The University © is to instill in the youth of our generation and those of all ages, the concept of ART by creating classic, timeless pieces that will be honored TODAY and 100years from now!
EVO Ray: Describe your earliest moment of Over-achievement:
J. Henry: The earliest moment of Over-achievement, I would have to say meeting with the Regional Manager of Rugby by RL, who is a fellow percussionist and artist as myself, who gave me the insight and words to create a business proposal to collaborate with other companies to incorporate different pieces from my collection into theirs
EVO Ray: Name a food or drink that you seemed to have on standby in your moments
of inspiration:
J. Henry: A Bag of Spicy Nacho Doritos, A caramel Macchiato from Starbucks(extra extra caramel) lol And a Redbull. And without question some type of fruit candy! I'm addicted to candy!
EVO Ray: If you weren’t pursuing your current career what would you be doing?
J. Henry: If I weren't pursuing my career as a business man in fashion, I'd probably be playing drums for an artist on a major tour. Music is still in me and I perform every Sunday at my church.
EVO Ray: At a party, which of the following would you most likely do upon your
arrival?
a. Headed to the Bar
b. Posted up People Watching
c. Doing a Mean Two Step on the Dance Floor
d. Making Your Rounds to See and Be Seen
J. Henry: I would definitely say upon my arrival, I would be b.)Posted up people watching. To make sure the crowd is at the vibe I would want it to be. That determines my stay at a venue.
EVO Ray: When you aren’t working, what/where/who helps you to relax?
J. Henry: When I'm not working, I try to listen to as much music as possible so I'm not left in the dark as to new music and artist on the rise. But I am a fan of classic old school music.
Usually just relaxing with my family is more than enough. Especially since I'm single at the moment. The most frequented spots are lounges or cafes.
EVO Ray: Will you ever retire?
J. Henry: I will NEVER retire. I want to do this until I expire in this lifetime.
EVO Ray: What would you like to see happen with your brand over the next 90
days?
J. Henry: in the next 90days we are endeavoring to have successfully mastered the 2nd photo shoot for our current collection, as well as, have the e-commerce website completed
EVO Ray: Who’s rotating in your IPOD right now?
J. Henry: Right NOW in my ipod is Maxwell's Black Summer Night and Robert Glasper's Double Booked.
I love to witness innovation with young talent, so MWM family stay tuned to witness the masterful makings of J. Henry Plummer!
RF/EVO/ Destined for greatness, I believe J. Henry Plummer will become a permanent fixture in Fashion. Anxiously awaiting his new collection!
